Spiritual Growth: The Permission You Have Been Waiting For Is Your Own.

From a Productivity Mask to Your Spiritual Growth

For years, I built my career on a half-truth, not realizing this was the beginning of my own spiritual growth journey. I introduced myself as an expert in systems and productivity. I genuinely believed that was my calling, to help people do more in less time, to optimize and streamline. It was a good mask. A helpful one. But a mask, nonetheless.

I’ve realized it was a brilliant disguise for a more vulnerable, more potent truth. That focus on external performance was, in part, a way to make my real purpose seem more palatable, less… daunting.

My real truth is this: I am meant to help people hear their heart song again.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re waiting, for a sign, for approval, for the “right” conditions, to step into a fuller version of your life or work, this is for you. The permission you seek won’t be found in an external source. It’s an inside job, and it’s the most liberating work you’ll ever do.

Why We Wear the Masks

We are brilliant at crafting identities that are acceptable, impressive, or safe. The “Reliable Rock.” The “Busy Achiever.” The “Always-On Professional.”

These roles are not inherently false, but they can become shields. They protect the more tender, uncertain, and authentic parts of us that we fear won’t be welcomed or understood. My “Productivity Expert” mask was a way to contribute value without risking the exposure of my deeper calling, the spiritual, emotional work of helping people come home to themselves.

The cost of a well-crafted mask is a quiet disconnect. It’s the feeling that, despite your accomplishments, you’re performing a script written for someone else. Spiritual fatigue sets in when our actions are not in harmony with our authentic core.

Tuning Into Your Heart Song: A Milestone in Spiritual Growth

Your “heart song” is not a loud, dramatic epiphany. It’s the quiet, persistent hum of your truth beneath the noise of “shoulds” and expectations.

It’s the intuition you talk yourself out of. The creative idea that excites and scares you equally. The deep sense of “rightness” you feel when you are aligned, even if the path is difficult. Hearing it requires us to turn down the volume on external validation and listen inward.

Often, the biggest blocker to profound spiritual growth isn’t distraction; it’s the fear of what we might hear if we truly listen. What desire might we have to acknowledge? What change might we need to make?

Permission is the First Creative Act

Agency is your power to choose your response and direction. It doesn’t begin with a giant leap in the outside world. It begins with a small, internal declaration.

Granting yourself permission is the fundamental act of self-trust. It’s you reclaiming authority over your own life. Neuroscience shows us that this shift, from seeking external validation to sourcing internal authorization, moves the brain from a state of anxious seeking to one of calm, creative agency. This internal shift is a cornerstone of genuine spiritual growth.

This permission isn’t about arrogance or selfishness. It’s about sovereignty. It’s saying, “I am the author of my experience, and I allow myself to feel this, want this, or try this.”

Your Framework for Internal Authorization

Let’s move from insight to action. Try this simple, powerful framework to advance your spiritual growth.

Step 1: Identify the External Veto

Get honest. Where are you waiting for an external green light?

  • “I’ll pursue that dream when I have more credentials.”
  • “I’ll set that boundary when my boss recognizes my workload.”
  • “I’ll share my idea when I’m sure no one will criticize it.”

Name the withheld permission.

Step 2: Draft Your Declaration of Agency

Write a statement that reclaims your authority. Use this format: “My [confidence/validation/authority] to [desired action] comes from my own [integrity/knowing/preparation].”

Example: “My confidence to share my creative work comes from my own commitment to the craft and my knowing that it expresses a part of my truth.”

Step 3: Take a Sovereignty Action

Within 24 hours, take one tiny action that embodies your new declaration. It must be symbolic and proof-of-concept to yourself.

  • If your declaration is about confidence, your action could be saving your work-in-progress folder as “My Genius Projects.”
  • If it’s about setting boundaries, your action could be literally blocking 30 minutes for deep work on your calendar.

The size is irrelevant; the symbolic power is everything.
